Hey lovely readers,
Welcome back to my blog. I hope you are all doing very well.
Words spoken to us are very powerful and can have a lasting impact when acted on. I remember in an episode of How I met your mother, someone told Marshall that Lily was a loud chewer. Prior to that moment, Marshall was blissfully unaware of the loud chewing and now that this info was pointed out, he noticed the loud chewing and it bothered him too much. Words my friends, shifts our perception on certain things and once spoken, the feeling the words carry will never leave you.
While I am aware of the impact words can have on our lives, I am of the opinion that words spoken by those near and dear carry a different weight than those spoken by random strangers. Words spoken to us by random strangers, can depending on circumstances, be brushed off easily and the emotions attached to these words fade rather quickly. Words spoken to us by those near and dear, have a lasting impact and that is why we are always advised to choose our friends carefully and learn how to live with our close family members.
The other day, I was thinking how the words said to me in form of advise by those near and dear have had a lasting impact in my life. Below I share three of the most impactful words of advise shared by those near and dear to me.
1.YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE –
“Live Fully, Live Responsibly and Live Boldly”
This truth serum was shared with my dear mother at a point in life when I was too scared to make any bold moves. With this truth, she reminded me that I have only one life to live and it is up to me to make it the best life I could possibly think of. To this day, I am very conscience of how I conduct my life, the energy that I surround myself and the decisions I make – if it’s not big and/or bold enough then I am simply not doing due service to my life.
2. YOU GET PAID WHAT YOU ASKED FOR,
“not what you deserve”.
This piece of advise was passed on by my work counsellor in the early days of my career. I think this was the first harsh reality I learnt about the corporate world. In my mind, the corporate world operated in such fairness that everyone was paid fairly in terms of what they deserved. As years have progressed and I have gained considerable experience in the corporate world, I have come to the realization that this is the truth that have led to a lot of people settling for what they were offered and feel cheated in the process, instead of speaking up and asking for what they deserve. If I could pass on any career advise, especially to women, is that we should not be afraid to ask for what we deserve because no one is going to give us what we deserve unless we are bold enough to ask for it.
3. YOUR DRESS-CODE IS YOUR ADDRESS
“Dress appropriately at all times”
One of my bff’s once kindly explained the importance of dressing well in this manner: When you first meet a person, your appearance and body language is all they have to form an opinion about you. So always dress in the manner in which you will like to be addressed. This advise may have landed me into having a sort of uniform when it comes to dress code but I can’t deny the confidence boost in knowing that I am appropriately dressed in all important occasions.
These are the most impactful words of advise that have been shared by those near and dear. I hope they are helpful to you as well. If you have any piece of advise for me, please feel free to share in the comments section below.
Once again, thank you so much for stopping by.
