MY 2017 HIGHLIGHTS

December 31, 2017
FacebookEmail

Hey lovely readers,

Welcome back to my blog. I hope you are all well and enjoying the las day of the year/.

As 2017 is coming to an end, I thought it would be fun to reflect on the highlights of the year. 2017 has been a long year, one filled with so many twists and turns, but as it comes to an end; I can only say that it will stand out as one of the most memorable years yet.

So without further ado, here are my highlights for the year 2017;

1. BEING ALIVE, HEALTHY AND HAPPY

Having lost two friends (both below the age of thirty) and a nephew this year, I feel so blessed to be alive as the year comes to an end. I am now of the knowledge that each day that I am alive, healthy and free to live the life I have been blessed with, is a gift that I should never take for granted.

2. LETTING GO AND LETTING GOD

After listening to countless sermons by T D Jakes and Rev Kimaro, I couldn’t have asked for a better year to let God take center stage in my life. Having faced one of the hardest years of my life, I was amazed at how God guided me through it all. I am so grateful that God was merciful enough to hold my hand during the rough days of 2017.

3.  ATTENDING MY COUSIN’S WEDDING

After sharing most of my life experiences with my cousin, it’s safe to say that she is not only a half-sister in action but also one of the best friends I am so blessed to have. Attending my cousin’s wedding has been something that I hoped, prayed and planned for, in the longest time. But the funny thing about planning and being excited something so hard, is that acts of God and unplanned circumstances can be get in the way of exciting plans. So, when September rolled in and I was able to board a plane all the way to Germany for her wedding, my stomach was filled with so many butterflies that I couldn’t contain myself. I had the best time at the wedding that till this day, I keep wishing for a wedding do-over. My cousin’s wedding is honestly the best thing that has happened in 2017.

4. ACHIEVING MOST OF MY 2017 GOALS

As a Capricorn, I am overly ambitious and go hard when it comes to accomplishing goals. I remember once sharing my goals with my mom and her reaction was her holding my hands and sincerely asking me to slow down. I still laugh thinking about her reaction.

So, when 2017 rolled in, I set 10 goals that I wanted to accomplish come December, 2017 and despite the many challenges faced this year, I am proud to say that I have accomplished most of the goals and I am ready to set even bigger goals for 2018.

5. TRAVELING TO MY BUCKET LIST DESTINATION

While this was not part of my 2017 goals, I had the pleasure of visiting one of the dreamy destinations I could ever imagine. I had the pleasure of visiting Positano, a village in the Amalfi Coast of Italy. I am praying for every reader of my blog to have the opportunity to experience the pleasure of visiting their bucket list destination because it’s the best experience one could encounter in their lifetime.

6. FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE WHOLE OF ME

It’s a weird thing to say, but this year I had the opportunity to fall in love with the whole of me. For the longest time, I felt like I had to shrink who I was with the goal of fitting in. But as I come to end of 2017, I have realized that my flaws and strengths make me uniquely fabulous and that’s more than ok. So as 2018 rolls in, I will selfishly nourish myself for a better me.

7. LIFE CHANGING MOMENTS WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY

My BFF’s and I have a habit of spending quality time either physically or virtually via the phone. Our times together have made 2017 an easier pill to swallow. Every time I felt uninspired or unmotivated, I would just pick up a phone call or schedule a meet with my ladies, just an hour with them was enough to put me in better spirits and get back in the game. I am eternally grateful for my friends and looking forward to our next meeting, because belly laughs are guaranteed.

8. OVERCOMING ALL CHALLENGES THAT WERE THROWN MY WAY

2017 has been in all aspects, one of the most challenging years for me. I was faced with so many life dilemmas and challenges that made me grow that thick skin for the sake of survival. I am grateful that I overcame all the major challenges that were thrown my way. I may have had a bad mood at times but all in all, I faced all challenges that were thrown my way.

9. I FOUND MY STYLE

2017 has truly been a year of growth for me. I have grown in all aspects of my life but most importantly I came to terms with my style. I am now aware that I don’t always look good on pencil dresses especially on days when I have a lunch baby. I have tried different styles and have come to terms with the fact that I look good with tailored pieces and that most trendy pieces do not compliment my silhouette. Having said that, I can’t wait to play with my style this coming year.

10. I FOUND HAPPINESS IN MOST UNEXPECTED SITUATIONS

When your life is filled with so many ups and downs, the best ways to survive is to look for happiness in the most unexpected places. I found happiness in the most routine activities I perform on a daily basis and it was the most pleasant feeling I could ever wish for or ask for. Happiness is really an infectious feeling that most of us should have on most days of our lives.

These were my highlights of 2017, please feel free to share your highlights in the comments section below. After all, they say that sharing is caring.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope 2018 will be the best year yet.

Love;

Aika!
