Welcome back to my blog. I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
My limited experience tells me that there is no universal path for career growth and/or success. If you have read the biographies of successful people, you will come to the conclusion that every successful person developed an individual path that contributed to their success and that’s the most powerful and unique attribute that each individual owns.
Whatever path you opt in pursuit for career success, you must have key competencies that will help you achieve the success you aim for. Below is my take on three key competencies for career growth and/or success;
This is a core competency for every successful person you will ever come across. Having integrity allows you to choose a career path that will ensure that the success you achieve will be fulfilling and to your core satisfaction.
Integrity is also a key ingredient for ensuring that you are disciplined at what you do. If you are person of integrity, that means you will deliver the work you are required to deliver within the agreed timelines, people will trust you with their key resources and/or business; and you will be the go to person when a business associate and/or employer needs a key resource in their team.
The reason many business ventures fail is lack of persistence. Most of us want to succeed at the first try. Failure is not something we want to deal with. Well, the bad news is; you will fail more times than you succeed. So if you want to taste the joy of success, you have to be resilient and persist to the point when you achieve the results you want.
Persistence guarantees that you solve all the problems that will come your way and every road to success is laced with problem after problem.
3. Interpersonal skills
To quote Investopedia, Interpersonal skills are generally those skills that ensures that you get along with co-workers while getting the work done. I think this is one of the skills that is over expressed in most resumes and rightfully so because everyone wants to work with people who are easy to get along with and people who wants to create a light yet productive working environment.
This is my take on key competencies for career growth, I would love to hear if there are any competencies that I should develop for career growth.
