Hey Lovely Readers,
Welcome back to my blog. I hope you are all well.
On today’s post I thought I would love to share 3 of the most important career lessons I have learnt thus far;
1. QUALITY OUTPUT JUSTIFIES THE EFFORTS
When I was first employed, I applied a certain amount of effort on my assignments. I thought the effort in itself was justifiable and that I should be recognized and applauded for it. Not too long into my career, did I receive the rude awakening that it’s not the efforts but the quality of the output.
This notion can sometimes be furious because sometimes you apply so much effort in certain projects and the results do not justify the amount of effort dedicated to it.
Learning to identify smart ways of working is, in my opinion the best way to get quality results without applying too much of unwanted efforts on projects or assignments.
2. EVOLVE OR EVAPORATE
No matter how comfortable the comfort zone is, we must always be looking for ways to challenge our status quo and evolve.
I feel like we do injustice to our careers if we expect the skills and experiences we earned a decade ago to be the selling point of our careers to date. It is not that the skills earned a decade ago are futile but we must always refresh our primary skills with additional skills to leverage what we already have and be better at what we do.
3. HAVE A CAREER PLAN
I applaud those who developed their career plans early on in life. I think having the right plan and a vision in place makes the blue Mondays bearable, the long hours acceptable and it also gives room for prioritization. I am still working on my career plan which is a always a struggle especially when it comes to prioritization and picking out projects to engage on but with time (hopefully by the end of this year) I will have a solid career plan in place.
I hope these lessons will help someone out there plan and grow their careers.
Once again thanks for stopping by.
